Everything is more fun at home!

Remember when...

I told you I would help you realize how 3 things were much more fun to do at home than they are in the classroom?!

First things First...

Fine Motor Skills

An activity done in the classroom using Fine Motor Skills is Block Building or as we would say plainly "playing with Legos". This activity literally builds fine motor skills (lol), by snapping the Legos together, building them tall, and taking them apart. The child is using their small muscles in the hands, which is the main focus.

This is much more fun one on one (at home) because you are talking about experiences. You and the child can talk about things they can relate to at home, a tower you saw outside, a car they saw driving by. Its just you and the child, one on one, and they can express things to you specifically.

Next up...

Sensory Activities

Sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain’s pathways, which leads to the child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks. By using water from your sink and a huge pot, you can create a fun sensory activity. Grab cereal, grab dried pasta, grab, ice out of the freezer, with these materials you can have a great talk. You can talk about if you eat them, if you can cook them, or even think of some utensils to use. One on one you and your child are developing language.

This brings me to my third "thing"...

Reading and Comprehension

A favorite activity to do with my students one on one would have to be reading their or my favorite books. I love reading with expression and making the child feel like we are in the book. Before we start we talk about the author and what his/her job is and the illustrator and what his/her job is as well. When we have completed the book, I ask them to tell me what the book is about, I ask them about characters, I ask them about names, I even ask the children if they can relate to anything in the story. This gives them the ability to read or listen to text, process it, and understand its meaning. One on one you are working on developing more language for your child.

One on one time with your child is so important because every child wants to feel special and deserves the personal time!
